MAKE A MASK PROJECT

Gabriella Daher + Sararose Krenger met at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in San Francisco, California in 2007. Together we share a passion for creating locally + ethically made, eco-friendly, contemporary styles for modern womyn. In March of 2019 we teamed up to create limited-edition garments made from locally sourced, deadstock textiles. In March of 2020, amidst a global life plot twist, we have once again joined forces to create much-needed sanitary supplies for healthcare workers, hospital patients, first responders and our high-risk community members.

We produced two kinds of masks, both are reusable and machine-washable.

One is made of breathable cotton with a moldable nose, slits on the sides where filters can be inserted and changed out for added protection and longevity and elastic straps that wrap around the back of the head and neck. Materials for these masks were donated to us with the exception of the elastic which we purchased locally using donation funds. This is a good option for the general public wanting to protect themselves and others from spreading and contracting disease-causing germs.

The second mask is made of three layers of specialized performance materials with two pockets for inserting extra filters, moldable nose and elastic straps that wrap around the back of the head and neck with togle closure for easy adjustability. The inner layer is a stay-dry hydrophobic jersey that wicks away moisture and humidity. The middle filtration layer is infused with SILVADUR™ antimicrobial silver ions which inhibits bacterial growth, controls bad odors and creates long lasting freshness without toxic chemicals. The outermost layer is a one-way hydrophobic wicking fabric. We sourced these materials from a sustainable American mill using donation funds. This is a good option for essential workers, immunocompromised and high-risk individuals.

All proceeds go directly back into our Make A Mask Project so we can continue to produce masks and supply those in need. Here's an ever growing list of goals we hope to accomplish from our living rooms throughout the next few months with the help of our very generous and enthusiastically supportive community:
